What is hypnosis?
A state of deep physical and mental relaxation yet also a state of heightened awareness. It is a natural phenomenon of the mind at work.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis usually combined with deep relaxation and other therapeutic techniques (such as post-hypnotic suggestion) to help people with all kinds of habits, emotional or psychological problems.
Will I be asleep?
No, hypnosis is not sleep you will be fully aware at all times during hypnosis even though you will have your eyes closed.
Can I be made to do anything embarrassing?
No, the state only continues with your co-operation, you keep control over it and over what you say or do. You are aware of what is being said and what is going on around you. It is impossible for you to be made to say or do anything that you would not normally wish to. You remain in full control of the situation at all times.
Will I know what is being said to me?
Yes, you will recall everything that is being said to you whilst under hypnosis.
Are any drugs or tablets used?
No.
Is the therapy confidential?
All consultations are individual and confidential. I am bound by my professional association's strict code of confidentiality. Notes taken during sessions are seen only by me and you may have them back at the end of the therapy if you wish, otherwise they will be destroyed.
Is it a good idea to see my doctor before visiting you?
If you suspect there is a physical cause for your problem, your doctor is best qualified to investigate it.
Is there any cause for concern?
No, hypnosis is a proven therapeutic tool.
Can everybody be hypnotised?
Yes. It is a complete misconception that there are people that cannot go into hypnosis.
What if you can't hypnotise me?
Anyone can enter the hypnotic state with the exception of the mentally handicapped and those high on alcohol or hard drugs.
But I find it difficult to relax...
Don't worry. I will be able to help you achieve a state of peaceful relaxation. How much or how little you relax is entirely up to you - you are in control at all times.
Do you see children for hypnotherapy?
Yes. Children often respond incredibly well to hypnotherapy.
Do you offer a free initial consultation?
Yes. This is in order for the client and therapist to meet and discuss the problem(s) and therapy. There is no obligation for the client to proceed with any form of therapy after this initial consultation. |
